Sydney is a year old! We celebrated with a small party on Saturday, August 2nd at Great Play in Superior. Sydney loved all the action and attention. Here are photos from Sydney’s first birthday party:

Sydney took her first steps on Friday, July 25th, at 11 months and 3 weeks. Since then, Sydney has progressed well. Here is a short video from Wednesday, July 30:

Last week, Sydney and I met our good friend Julie, of Julie Kate Photography for a walk and a bit of play time at a nearby playground. Julie took some great shots of Sydney at play. Here is a collage of photos Julie put together:
I have Sydney each morning from when she wakes up, which averages around 5:45 or 6:00 AM, until 8:00 or 9:00 AM on weekdays, later on weekends.
We have a very nice routine established: wake up, play with toys, walk downstairs to get the newspaper, eat breakfast together, play with toys or dance to music, and then poop. I then take Sydney out for a walk around downtown Boulder in the backpack.
Each morning the route is a little different. Some days we walk along the Boulder Creek path. Other days we walk to a mostly-deserted playground on 24th and Pearl. On Saturdays we hit the farmer’s market. We watch birds and squirrels, examine the construction projects happening downtown, and look at people going to work or enjoying a weekend morning.
Sydney loves to look at (and be seen by) people and we always walk down Pearl Street Mall, which even at 8:00 AM has plenty of pedestrians. Most days we talk to someone, either a neighbor or friend we know, the old guy playing his violin, a mom or dad in town with a young child in a stroller, or someone walking his dog. Sydney waves, smiles, gets excited about the dogs, and even blows kisses.
It is a great morning tradition and one of my favorite parts of the day!
